Punk culture is not the native culture of this country. Appearance and punk lifestyle is very different from the people of Indonesia in general, even the world community i guess. It is the right of every human being to do anything with theirself, but there are other rights which are also important. Democracy, rights of community that makes the rights of individuals to be marginalized. I am entitled to wear pants upon my head, but if the entire population of the town where I live do not like it, they can isolate, even throw me out of town. Like it or not, that's reality. If you dealing with community, democracy, there is only like or dislike involved.

Lionel Messi
Looking how small he is, what he reach till now is just amazing. He will be a legend for sure. Lionel Messi having unique dribbling skill that make him able to escape from opponent defenders with small effort without losing speed. He can move the ball's direction slightly before the opponent touch it. So close that the opponent not have time to reverse his move, and Messi just pass through without decrease in speed to beat another opponent. If you see it on TV, that is how Messi pass one, two or three opponent. No special trick, no other additional dribble skills to entertain viewer. Just effective dribbling and passing. He knows how to create goal and knows how to assist his team on making goals.

Christiano Ronaldo
He is an entertainer. He usually create special movement, interesting trick, and such to entertaint his fans. But actually, the most dangeraus C. ronaldo have to beat his opponent is his running speed. He run very fast. Against low quality team, C ronaldo is a monster and able to create many goals, but against good teams, his ability is not help much. His speed decreases much when a good defender standing on his way. In every league, there are many not so good team, that is why player like C ronaldo having high possibilities on placing himself as top scorer.

So, if i have to decide which one is better, Messi is the guy.

Indonesian Ghost vs Security Guy

I don't know this story is a tragedy or comedy. Just because i'm not the ghost in this story, so i decide that this is a comedy.

This happen in an appartment on Bandung, West Jawa, a pretty chick around twenty was dressing like famous ghost "Suster Ngesot" to make a surprise for her friend on her birthday. She was waiting her friend outside the lift at 22th floor, and the target (her friend) was on the way up from 17th floor. This ghost intend to make her friend scream like hell. When the lift's door open at 22th floor, suddenly a security guy with no mercy kick the ghost straigh on the face and made her flew high .. to hospital.

Fail plan, she got headache plus broken teeth. She never though about brave security guy in the lift that never afraid of any ghost :p.

Next time, if she plan to do this on 2nd try, she must be wearing a helmet. (suster ngesot + helmet=??)

Reog Ponorogo, East Java

The dance known as Reog is a very spectacular dance with several dancers wearing bright colorful costumes accompanied by merry gamelan music.

It is always played in the open terrain, such as in a square, street etc. This dance which always draws a lot of spectators is a traditional art dance combined with magical show or a trance dance.
The reog dates back during the Hindu period in East Java. The story is related with the legend in Ponorogo Kingdom (+/- 70 km South East of Solo). Nowadays reog dance groups can be found also in other regions of Solo, Yogya, Other Towns in East Java, Kalimantan, Jakarta, even in Suriname. One of the famous group is Reog Prambanan in the border of Yogyakarta – Solo.

The Story
The powerful King Kelono Sewandono of Ponorogo Kingdom was famous with his fighting skills and magical power, accompanied by his Patih (Prime Minister) Bujanganom & his strong soldiers were attacked by King Singabarong, The King of Lions of Kediri Jungle, supported by his army, consisted of Lions and Peacocks.

At that time the Ponorogo's group were on the way to The Kingdom of Kediri guarding King Sewandono to marry Dewi Ragil Kuning, a princess of Kediri Kingdom. There was a big fight between mighty warriors having magical power. The peacocks flew up and down flapping their wings to support The Lions – Singa Barong. Bujanganom with his magic whip, supported by some Waroks in black traditional dress defeated The King Lion with all his followers.

The King of Ponorogo and his soldiers merrily continued their way to Kediri on horse back. Singa Barong joint the procession The Peacocks kept close to Singa Barong opened their tail feathers which looked like beautiful fan. (Warok of Ponorogo is a man with strong magical power, always dresses in black costumes)

The Performance

The central figure of this dance is The Lion King Singa Barong represented by a dancer wearing a mask of a Lion carrying a large peacock feather fan on top of the mask (this mask is locally called : Topeng Dadak Merak). It weight around 50 kg. The dancer has to use his teeth to hold the mask from inside.
He must have a very strong set of teeth and neck to move around the mask Dadak Merak. On top of this, he has also to carry a lady representing Princess Ragil Kuning. Or sometimes, he has to demonstrate his skill and strength by carrying another mask dancer on top of him, and still he could dance with vigorous and fantastic movements.

In a certain celebration several reog groups could perform together, sometimes until 100 groups.
Nowadays there is a reog groups with all dancers are woman, the only one is from Wonogiri regency, district of Slogohimo (50 km South of Solo).

Ngaben or the Cremation Ceremony is the ritual performed to send the dead through the transition to his next life.

The village Kul Kul, hanging in the tower of the village temple, will sound a certain beat to announce the departure of the deceased. The body of the deceased will be placed at Bale Delod, as if he were sleeping, and the family will continue to treat him as if he were still alive yet sleeping. No tears are shed, for he is only gone temporarily and he will reincarnate into the family. The Priest consults the Dewasa to determine the proper day for the ceremony. On the day of the ceremony, the body of the deceased is placed inside a coffin which is then placed inside a sarcophagus in the form of a buffalo (called Lembu) or a temple structure called Wadah made of paper and light wood. The Wadah will be carried to the village cremation site in a procession.The climax of Ngaben is the burning of the Wadah, using fire originating from a holy source. The deceased is sent to his afterlife, to be reincarnated in the future.

The waterfall it self is not really that high. Only approximately 10-15metres high. Cemented pathway, but quite steep to climb up back to the parking area.

This post is about Gunung Kawi Temple at Bali, don't confuse with another Gunung Kawi at East Java. This Gunung Kawi is a Temple, but Gunung Kawi at East Java is a mountain. Both of them are interesting place to visit.

Situated at Tampak Siring village, the ancient Gunung Kawi monument was built for the first time in 11th century. There are several stairs to be climbed by every visitor before reaching the site. Across the river you will find two rows of monuments sculptured on the rocky stone wall, illustrating the younger brother of King Erlangga named Anak Wungsu. The Gunung Kawi monument is a prominent site which becomes an interesting site for students or archaeologists. Temple complex is consisted of 2 consecutions. The Ulun Danu temple is located on the crater lake Bratan in Tabanan area, on the island Bali, Indonesia. This very important Hindu-Buddhist temple was founded in the 17th century. It is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of the waters, and is actually built on small islands, which means it is completely surrounded by the lake. With more than 100 ethnics and dozens of languages spread across thousands of islands, you can easily get a variety of unique things in Indonesia. One of them certainly is Waerebo, a remote hamlet which is still preserving its culture.

Waerebo hamlet is part of Satar Lenda village, District of West Satarmese, Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Weather was quite cold at an altitude of 1100 m above sea level. Waerebo hamlet surrounded by mountains, dense forests, and away from the neighboring villages. Hamlet Waerebo confirmed by Enclave since the Dutch colonial period.

Communities in Waerebo live surrounded by woods. Their house is very unique because a cone-shaped, made of straw, and only have one door whose height is lower than normal house. People thought that the eastern region is identical to the coast. With the Waerebo, you will be aware that the eastern part of Indonesia is also rich in natural forests.

To et there, travellers must traverse the forest area which is still preserved. Chirping of birds also accompany thevisitor steps as if they welcomed visitors arrival.

Waerebo custom homes known as "Mbaru Niang" (house-shaped circular cone).Mbaru niang consists of 5 levels and each level has its own function. The first level is "Lutur" (tent) which will be occupied by the community. The second level is the "Lobo" (attic) that hold food and other goods. The third level is "Lentar" to save seeds such as corn, rice and beans, etc.. The fourth level is"Lempa Rae" as a reserve food stocks. Food reserves are used when there is crop failure or prolonged drought. The fifth level is the "Hekang Code" is used to store langkar (in the form of a square-shaped woven from bamboo to store offerings forancestors).

Nigeria recently announced a legislation on banning gays in their country. Being gay is a criminal act and punishable by imprisonment up to 14 years. Although western countries opposed, but they stick with the decision. They do not interfere in the western state law, and they also asked western countries do not interfere with the laws in their country. Sounds fair, does it? what is your opinion?

I personally agree with Nigeria. Freedom sometimes crossing the line. One thing that previously was considered immoral then legalized with a variety of reasons. In this world, there should be a place that could be called "not Sodom n Gomorrah". Nigeria is included in this criterion.

Not long before this case happened, Russia also perform the same action. The penalty for gay activities in the form of fines. Gay was supposed not to be displayed,promoted, or facilitated. U.S. condemned this and insisted that gay has rights, equal with other human rights.

U.S. seems forgot that the rules are made for the convenience of the community. If the interests and comfort of gay community turned out to interfere with the larger,of course, there is one that needs to be prioritized.

Indonesia itself already have too many problems, so the regulations for this kind of thing is not so important. If gay take action beyond others tolerance, people will act on their own without any formal legal process.

Just few minutes from Borobudur temple, you can find interesting outbound vacation. Rafting. In Rainy season, nothing more interesting than rafting. Strong stream in rain, with hot coffee at the end of the journey, that's heaven.

Elo River in Magelang is nice place to start having fun. This river is suitable enough for beginner. The stream is medium, even in rainy season. I've ever been there once with my friends. It was rain, and seem frightening seeing the river stream. The instructor was giving me buoy and paddle and we (I, my friends, and one instructor) start our journey. All electronic device, like phone etc, was put inside a water resist box, so it save during rafting.

The stone, water, stream, which were look frightening from riverside, became interesting part while rafting. Bigger stone, bigger stream, more interesting. I wonder if the stream was bigger after the end of rafting. At the end, you probably lost your voice for a while because you're too much screaming all the way.

Ok, i'm not good storyteller btw. But what i wanna tell you is simple. Get your ass to this place and get some fun.

But luckily, some foreigner has good stuff and expose it on the net so we know better what we don't know about ours. When divers want to photograph strange creatures, they think Lembeh. Muck diving? Lembeh. Lembeh, with it's great selection of resorts and well-trained dive guides, might be the best muck diving andmacro underwater photography destination in Indonesia.

Lembeh Straits lies near Manado, Sulawesi in Indonesia. After flying to Manado, you can be in the water usually within a couple hours. It is easy to dive Bunaken, known for its great corals and large fish, on the same trip as diving Lembeh, transfering between the two only takes a couple of hours.

A typical Lembeh underwater photography dive

A typical Lembeh Strait dive site is mostly sand, with small scattered patches of sponges, reef, or anemones. Your dive guide will bring you and 1-3 other divers down to about 60-80ft depth, where you start to look for photo subjects and slowly make your way shallower. The small patches of life are typically homes marine life such as clownfish, crinoid shrimps, small frogfish, pipefish, seahorses, nudibranchs, harlequin shrimp, etc. In the sand the dive guide will be looking for species such as various octopus, snake eels, mantis shrimp, gobies, nudibranchs, sanddivers, etc. You will be somewhat spread out, each person usually photographing one subject while the dive guide find the next subject. In the shallows juvenile fish are usually more common. It is good to discuss beforehand the rules your group will use for how long to stay with a subject, staying downcurrent of other divers because of silt, finning technique, etc.

Lembeh Strait marine life

Lembeh is heaven for the macro underwater photographer. Lembeh straits has a great assortment ofstrange fish, macro critters and nudibranchs. You can view photos and a list of all the Lembeh marine life in the muck diving critter guide.

On my trip to the Lembeh Strait, highlights included seeing 2 hairy frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish, juvenile barramundi, juvenile pinnate batfish, purple rhinopia, harlequin shrimp, mandarin fish, a beautiful snakeblenny in the open, and large beautiful stinging anemones.

Other notable sightings in Lembeh included:

Many different seahorses and pipefish, 3 different squid species, 3 different cuttlefish species, octopus, many different filefish, cowfish, and boxfish; bubble shrimp, tiger shrimp, crinoid shrimp , anemone shrimp, many other shrimps and crabs; bengai cardinalfish; many different gobies and blennies; snake eels, garden eels, ribbon eels, various other eels. many, many mantis shrimp. razorfish, convict blennies, schooling juvenile catfish, blue-fin trevally. pegasus sea moth, demon stingers, flying gurnards, many lionfish and pufferfish, whip coral gobies, bristle worms, cuckatoo waspfish, many different clownfish/anemone fish, many large & interesting anemones, many nudibranchs

Best time to visit Lembeh Straits

Lembeh can be dove at any time of the year. Dec-Feb are the rainy months but the visibility will still be fine for macro photography. Lembeh has been getting crowded recently, so try to go in the off season. Hopefully the dive sites will get mooring lines someday.

Lembeh water temperatures

July and August have the coldest water temperatures, getting down to 25 celsius (77F). Bundle up! Some people think the most critters are out during the cold months. Water temps get up to 29 celsius (84F) in Jan-Feb. Wear a full wetsuit year round.

Lembeh Straits dive sites

The dive sites in Lembeh are generally sand, rock, muck, or rubble, but there are a couple sites with nice corals and walls. Marine life is generally prolific from 3-4 meters depth down to 25 meters depth. I prefer to dive on nitrox. Police pier, Nudie falls, Nudie Retreat and TK3 are definitely target-rich environments that you want to dive early and often. California dreaming and Angel's falls offer good wide-angle opportunities.

Questions to ask the Lembeh dive resorts

What is the max number of divers per guide? (3 is good, 2 is great)
Are night dives included or extra? (you want to do lots of night dives!)
Is there a charge for house reef dives? Can I dive there solo?
How many dives are offered a day?
Do you offer nitrox? 32 and 36 percent, or only 32? If I dive Nitrox, will the guide also dive nitrox?
Is there a time limit on dives?
Is water, coffee or food brought on the boats?

Best lenses for Lembeh straits underwater photography

60mm macro lens on a cropped sensor will be useful on a majority of your dives
105mm lens with a flipon wet diopter can be useful for creative photos and small shrimps & crabs
Tokina 10-17mm lens or a nikon 10.5mm fisheye with a 1.4x tele can be useful for creative CFWA (macro-wide-angle) photos of the larger seahorses, frogfish, rhinopias, eels out in the open, and any other subject that you can get close to.

Lembeh underwater photos

Except for the 3 photos taken by Penelope, these photos were taken without a strobe. Unfortunately I had strobe / housing problems that couldn't get fixed while I was in Lembeh. I had to use my dive light instead, which is less than ideal, but better than nothing. These photos were taken in March of 2008.

Convict blennies. These convict blennies at first glance look similar to schooling juvenile catfish, but lack the barbels, and are smaller.

Kopi is Coffee in Indonesian language, and Luwak is a kind of civet which is considered as pest among Indonesian farmer. Kopi luwak itself refers to coffee which produced by luwak, which only eat the finest, the ripest, the reddest coffee cherries available on the plantations. The excrete of Luwak's digestion process is what we call Kopi Luwak. What? The most expensive coffee is coming from animal's ass hole? Haha,.. you are right. The enzymes in the animals' stomachs add something unique to the coffee's flavor through fermentation.

100 grams of Kopi Luwak cost around US$50, but some cafeshop already offer this kind of coffee for 5 dollars each cup. It's small amount of money comparing hard effort of farmers who have to collect animal shit all day long.
